The Department of Medieval History, Modern History, and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques has its origins in the Department of Modern History, founded by Professor Antonio Mestre in last century's early eighties. At that time, it was made up exclusively by the lecturers in the Area of Modern History. However, the provisions of the University Reform Act University decided the creation of a new department, after the name of Medieval and Modern History, to which, the lecturers in the mentioned areas were assigned and, soon after that, those in the Area of Palaeography. In the academic year 2006-2007, and seizing the moment of the reform of both the University of Alicante Statute and the Department Regulations, The Department's full Council decided to name it as it appears on the heading of this website and this decision was ratified by the University Governing Council. The Department is, therefore, made up by the areas of Medieval History, Modern History, and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques.
The teaching activity of this Department is currently being developed in the undergraduate degrees of History, Geography and Humanities, as well as in the Interuniversity Master's degree carried out jointly with the University of Valencia (general Studies) and Jaume I of Castellon, after the title of "History and Identities in Western Mediterranean (15C - 19C)".
The premises of this Department are located on the second floor of the Faculty of Arts (building III).
